1. Sinhgad Fort

Sinhgad is an old historical monument fort located around 50 km away from the pune city in southwest direction. It is situated on Bhuleshwar range of sahyadri mountain range. It is around 1320 m above the sea level height. Initially, it was known by his name as kondhana, but after battle of suryabhana and subhedar tanhaji malusare it is renamed as Sinhgad fort. It has great history of great warrior Tanhaji Malusare who conquered the fort and added it to Swarajya. It can be a great trek to do in 1 day for historical learnings and adventures experience. On a clear day, Rajgad and Torna fort can be seen from this fort.

2.  Pawna Lake Camping

Pawna lake is 55 km away from Pune city and around 20 km away from lonavala and is one of the best place to spend weekend near nature’s lap. Pawna lake is a backwater of the dam built nearby for hydroelectric energy and watersupply to the nearby surroundings. It gives you lake side camping experience in tents. it has great variety of flora and fauna and it resides in western ghats which makes it a natural hospot. It has many ancient mounuments nearby which can be visited while on-road.


3.Wai Ganpati Temple

The mahaganapati of wai, also known by name dholya ganapati temple is on the banks of the Krishna river which originate in Mahabaleshwar. It is very beautiful and scenic temple and can be visited for one day trip. Wai is temple and very old city which is also called as Dakshin kashi, which is only around 90 km away from the pune city and 35 km away from satara city. On the ghats, it has one ganapati and also kasha Vishweshwar Temple in the temple area. The temple is very beautifully carved shivling and nandi with very big mandap outside.

4.Bhor

Bhor is a very famous but not much visited by tourist destination. Bhor has many places like Bhatghar dam, Rohida fort, Necklace Point and Bhor Rajwada for visit. Bhor is one of the tehsil of pune districts on the Satara district boundary which is only 55 km away from the pune city. Bhor rajwada is a great palace of the Bhor state King which can be visited for historical researches and architectural learnings. The breath-taking view of Necklace point and bhatghar dam is very relaxing and far from the noise of the city in Western Ghats.

 





5.Menavali Ghat/ Nana Fadnvis Palace

Menavali Ghat is one the best destination in Wai tehsil of satara district to visit any time. Menavali ghat has temple of mahadev on the bank of the Krishna River. The ghat is behind the palace of the great Sardar Nana fadnavis of the Maratha Empire. Nana fadnavis palace has entry ticket to enter inside but the palace still holds the old Maratha architecture and it is very eye-relaxing. Menavali Ghat is also well famous for Movie shootings, several movies in Bollywood like Yudh, Gangaajal, Bajirao Mastani, swades are filmed in the area.

 





6.Rajgad Fort

Rajgad fort is 60 km away from the pune city. It was the first capital of the Maratha empire build by the great emperor Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj for nearly 26 years timespan. Rajgad fort was built by Shivaraya by the treasure which he found on the nearby fort torna. The fort is 1340 m high from the sea level and gives the best trekking experience. The structures like defensive wall, bastions, steps, temples lakes and palace ruins can be seen on the fort. the fort has very large area and it is hard to see the whole fort in one day, however, stay can be done at base village gunjavane.

7.Kaas Pathar

Kaas platue or kaas Pathar which is also kaas platue reserved forest is located in Satara tehsil of Satara district. It is very beautiful and scenic destination to visit in sahyadri mountain range especially in rainy season.  It is one of the UNESCO world natural heritage sites in India since 2012 under Western Ghats. The platue is located on the height of 1200 meters from the sea level measurement.

Kaas and its side platues are made up from the volcanic eruptions and its rock. It is very well known famous for its numerous types of flowers bloom here in different seasons. Also, it has various types of endemic butterflies that can be seen here often. It is spread over 10 sq. km of area. It has more than 800 different species of flowers which bloom according to their seasons. However, many of this species starts to bloom after July month rainfall. Very high number of different types of snakes and other animals can be seen here often when travelling. Kaas Lake built nearly 100 years before is the source of drinking water for western Satara city. Many researchers from all across the world come here for bio diversity study and research. Many flowers can be seen in the region from June month to October and platue will change color after 10-15 days regularly.


8.Bhimashankar Temple

Bhimashankar temple is a religious attraction spot in sahyadri mountain Range and is one of the 12 jyotirlingas of god Mahadev present all around the India. It is nearly 115 km away from pune city. It has very beautiful carvings, and the temple is carved with very minute detains on the walls. Also, it has forest reserve which can be visited nearby, shekru animal can be seen here often. This forest reserve has very rare species of flora and fauna. Also, one day trek can be arranged in the area.

One of the bell won by Chimaji Appa (brother of Peshwa Bajirao Ballal) in the war with Portuguese in Vasai fort, he donated one of the bell here.

9.Tapola

Tapola is very famous and one of the most attractive destination in Satara District. It is denoted as mini Kashmir of Satara because of its simply loving natural beauty. Tapola gives a very stunning view into the Valley of Sahyadri Mountains with koyna dam in between the mountains. It is located on side of shivsagar backwater of the koyna dam project located at koynanagar, Satara. It offers you to do many activities like boating, swimming, jetty ride and many more water sports are available in the town. Also Tapola and its surroundings own very great and motivating history of Shri Chatrapati Shivaji maharaj.

The region has very scenic places that cannot be enjoyed anywhere in Maharashtra. Also, Tapola is very near to the Sahyadri tiger reserve project and koyna wildlife sanctuary. Historical forts like madhu-makrand gad, vasota, jangli jaigad and pratapgad are very near and approachable from the village. Camping activities are also the reason tourists visit here. You can enjoy camping here in valley in sahyadri as you want in peaceful manner. The area often receives very high rainfall in rainy season and it is suggested to avoid travelling here in the same, due to often sliding happening in the ghat roads.

 

     10.Matheran Hill Station

Matheran is nicely places hill station and eco-sensitive zone in the western ghats of the sahyadri mountain range which is very near to the pune city. It the smallest hill station known in Country. The place is need to be explored by walking or through the horse riding only. Pisharnath Mahadev temple and Ambarnath Shiv temple can be visited here. Activities like horse riding, rock climbing, hiking or trekking, Forest camping are very famous in the area.

11. Lavasa City

Lavasa is the smart city in the pune district in the western ghat region and nearly 40 km away from the pune city. The city is very well visited by tourists on weekends, water activites are very famous in the city. It is located on the bank of the Warasgoan lake where all water sports are available. Also, it is known by the name Ghost city because of its very low population of around 1900. The city lives in lush green mountains of the sahyadri mountain range.

12.Mahabaleshwar

Mahabaleshwar is most famous hill station in the Satara district and greatly visited by the tourists all around the India throughout the year. There are many points and forts to visit near Mahabaleshwar. All types of adventures activities are available in the town. It is nearly 120 km from the pune city and worth visiting. It receives very high rainfall throughout the rainy season. Old Mahabaleshwar has Panchaganga temple and krishnabai temple from which five rivers Krishna, Koyna, Savitri, Gayatri and venna originates. Further, it has very ancient historical monuments all over the area. It was developed by the britishers with the help of Chatrapati Pratapsinh raje of Satara State and it was the summer capital of the Bombay state before.
