Kaas Platue- Valley of Flowers

Kaas platue or kaas Pathar which is also kaas platue reserved forest is located in Satara tehsil of Satara district. It is very beautiful and scenic destination to visit in sahyadri mountain range especially in rainy season.  It is one of the UNESCO world natural heritage sites in India since 2012 under Western Ghats. The platue is located on the height of 1200 meters from the sea level measurement.

Kaas and its side platues are made up from the volcanic eruptions and its rock. It is very well known famous for its numerous types of flowers bloom here in different seasons. Also, it has various types of endemic butterflies that can be seen here often. It is spread over 10 sq. km of area. It has more than 800 different species of flowers which bloom according to their seasons. However, many of this species starts to bloom after July month rainfall. Very high number of different types of snakes and other animals can be seen here often when travelling. Kaas Lake built nearly 100 years before is the source of drinking water for western Satara city. Many researchers from all across the world come here for bio diversity study and research. Many flowers can be seen in the region from June month to October and platue will change color after 10-15 days regularly.




Very high number of tourists come here every year in rainy season to visit kaas platue and its glory of flowers. However, this has raised concerns about biodiversity in the region. Because of this, the Satara forest department has limited number of visitors to 3000 visitors per day on platue. So make sure to book tickets online on the official website to reserve the seat. The entry fee is 100 rupees per person and no entry fees for children below 5 years.

The platue suffer very high rainfall during rainy seasons. The temperature goes from 5 degree Celsius in winters to 40 degree Celsius in mid-summer season. The precautions must take during travel to the reserved forest in rainy seasons.

Kaas platue or Kaas Lake is located at 25 km away from Satara city, 145 km away from Kolhapur, and 280km away from Mumbai city and around 135 km away from pune city. Nearest railway station is Satara railway station which is 30km away from the platue. Platue is well connected by local bus transport and road ways.

Mahabaleshwar: Mahabaleshwar hill station is located at 38 km from kaas platue which is very famous hill station in Western Ghats during all seasons.

Satara: Satara city is around 25 km away from the platue and can be reached by road transport.

Vajrai Waterfall: Vajrai fall is nearly 7-8 km away from the Kaas Lake which is one of the highest waterfall in India which fall in 3 stages total.

Tapola Hill station: Tapola is located 50 away from the kaas platue which is very scenic destination to visit.

Bamnoli: Bamnoli is a scenic and beautiful village on the banks of the shivsagar backwater of koyna dam located 10 km away from the Kaas Lake.

Sahyadri tiger reserve: Sahyadri tiger reserve is a forest reserve on the bank of shivsagar backwater very near to the kaas platue.
