Shanivar Wada
Shanivar wada is
a very important historical monument situated in the middle of the pune city. Shanivar
wada had played very significant role in the history of Marathas. Shanivar wada
was the house of the peshwa family and it was also from where peshwa did their
politics. The palace saw many ups and downs of the Maratha Empire.
It was built by
peshwa Bajirao in the year of 1732, the palace was having the seven story
building inside. Firstly, the structure was having stone wall compound protection
around it, but due to some serious concerns and politics of Satara, Chatrapati
Shahu Maharaj ordered to break down the stone wall and to build the normal one
with small size.
Many important
events happened in the palace and palace is the strong witness of the both rise
and fall of the Maratha powers. Ceremony of every peshwa, weddings of the
peshwa family, Bajirao’s unstoppable march towards Mughals, Marathas conquering
delhi, third battle of panipat, Nizam attacking pune, Death of Narayan Rao, uncountable
events has been seen by Shanivar wada and still he tell the history if we visit
the fort and tries to listen it.
By the year
1818, peshwa lost all his powers and also lost his home to the hands of Britishers,
the flag of Britishers was held at Shanivar wada and the last peshwa of the
Maratha Empire as in Bajirao Peshwa 2nd sent to bidur to spend his
remaining life without any powers and on the pension given by Britishers. Shanivar
wada got destroyed by many war happened in the region in 18th and 19th
century.
In the year 1828
a big fire get started inside Shanivar wada, and many important structures got
broke down in the fire. Now the Shanivar wada remain only in ruins.

Zoological Park: Rajiv Gandhi zoological park is a zoo in katraj region, nearly
9 km away from Shanivar wada palace.
Parvati Hill:
parvati hill is a small hill in between pune city which has different temples
and gives scenic view of pune which is only 4 km away from palace.
Saras Baug:
saras baug commonly famous for talyatla ganapati is only 4-5 km away from
palace.
