Vajrai Waterfall
Bhambavali
Vajrai Waterfall is the most scenic and tallest waterfall in India. Vajrai
waterfall is also known by its name as Bhambavali waterfall which is the
nearest village to the waterfall. It is situated in Satara tehsil of the Satara
district in western Maharashtra Section. The total measured height of the
Vajrai Waterfall is around 560 meters which is 1840 ft. the waterfall Falls in
total three steps. The waterfall is situated on the Urmodi River, which after
falling from the river the water is stored in Urmodi Dam near Sajjangad Fort in
Satara.
The Vajrai Waterfall even after being the tallest waterfall in India, it is well ignored by all the tourists or trekker community for the unknown reason or because of its location in the dense forest. A 1-2 hour trek has to be done to reach the waterfall from the Bhambavali Village based on your speed. The trek difficulty is medium to hard. However, it is strongly suggested to not bring kids and older people to the waterfall in the rainy season. Also, not to trek to the waterfall in very heavy rains as landslide happens in the region more often. There are numerous trials available to reach the different stages of the waterfall.
This is the
perfect place to trek in the monsoon Season or rainy season for peace and
nature. Sahyadri Mountain range will throw its most beautiful colors in the
rainy season in the region. The total region is a dense reserved forest which
comes under Satara Forest department. The waterfall still preserves its natural
essence and it’s still very far from the crowd. There are many tourist places
around the waterfall and can be visited while visiting the Vajrai waterfall.
The region near the Satara or Vajrai Waterfall is not less than heaven in monsoon
or in the rainy season.
How to Reach:
The Vajrai Waterfall
is located in Satara district in the Western Ghats of the sahyadri mountain
region. The waterfall is only about 28 km away from the Satara City, around 140
km away from the pune city, 283 km away from Mumbai and 145 km away from the Kolhapur
city. The base village for the trek is Bhambavali Village and can be reached by
road with private transport.
From Mumbai:
Mumbai- Pune- Satara- Kaas Platue- Bhambavali- Vajrai Waterfall.
From Pune: Pune-
Satara- Kaas Platue- Bhambavali- Vajrai Waterfall.
From Kolhapur:
Kolhapur- Satara- Kaas Platue- Bhambavali- Vajrai Waterfall.
The stay can be
done at Bamnoli village or in the Satara city. The waterfall is very well connected
with the roads. The nearest railway station is Satara railway Station around 35
km away from the Bhambavali.
Safety Precautions Must be taken while visiting to the waterfall:
The area is full
of wildlife, many animals roam around freely, So, Bringing Non veg food around
the waterfall is strictly prohibited.
Visit the
waterfall only in Daylight and Camping around is not allowed.
The area is full
of Leeches (Jalu). So, bring sanitizer bottles while visiting for removing
leeches from the body.
Wear appropriate
trekking gears.
There is
probability of you encountering with reptiles, poisonous insects or any wild
animals like bears or tigers.
