Thoseghar Waterfall

Thoseghar waterfall is very scenic waterfall situated in Satara tehsil of Satara district. Thoseghar waterfall is very beautiful and best spot for those who love nature and wildlife. The waterfall is very near to the konkan region but cannot be reached by road transport. Many tourists from the nearby cities visit here often, the waterfall makes a very good look and it is suggested to visit in the rainy or monsoon season.

The surrounding area of Satara district and is very underrated by the tourists. The region around will make you fall in love with the place. The place is very calm and it maintain its cold temperature in all seasons. The ghat roads, cold temperature, sound of the moving water, the fog, windmills and greenery is the attraction of the region. It is suggested to visit the waterfall from July month to December month. Also, precaution must be taken while visiting the waterfall in the rainy season as the area receives very high rainfall and ghat roads are may be closed due to the same reason.


The trails are constructed by the Satara forest department to see each and every waterfall in the area with the best views. Many accidents happened here in recent years because of falling of peoples from the cliff very down into the waters. However, it is not allowed to go into the waters and the water area is totally secured by the compounds build around them. One can see koyna backwater which is also called as shivsagar jalashay and sahyadri mountain region which comes under Ratnagiri district from the western cliffs.

Chalkewadi windmill farm and Thoseghar waterfall are very near to each other and both can be visited while at once. The Thoseghar waterfall comes under the koyna wildlife sanctuary and sahyadri tiger reserve zone. The precaution must be taken while visiting the chalkewadi windmill farm because some western area on the platue comes under the core zone of the tiger reserve and it is dangerous to go to the west side.

How to Reach:

Thoseghar Waterfall is located in Satara Tehsil of Satara district. One have to first reach Satara to reach the waterfall. It is around 19 km away from the Satara city, 140 km away from pune city, 280 km far from Mumbai city and 145 km away from Kolhapur. Nearest railway station is Satara railway station and is 25 km away from the waterfall. Waterfall is well connected with Satara cities with the local bus transport and other types of road transport.


There are many stay options available in the Satara city. Also, for wildlife experience there are many stays available at kathi, Sahyadri tiger reserve or in nearby area. One must book online hotels before visiting the place.
