Panchgani

Panchgani also known as Paachgani is very famous hill station in Western Ghats of Maharashtra in Satara District which attracts very large number of tourists across the year. Panchgani is declared as the cleanest city in western zone of Maharashtra. Also, it is very famous for boarding schools. Panchgani has very large number of boarding schools in the area. Panchgani is very attractive tourist destination because of its scenic view, near nature experience and sunrise or sunset points.

The town is located at 1335 meters high from the sea level and gets its name from the five mountains which acquire the town. The town is situated within the mountains surrounding it. Krishna River flows through this places on which dhom dam is built nearly 9 km away from Wai city. The place is very calm and it maintains its pleasant climate throughout the whole year.


Initially the town was developed by British raj and Chatrapati of Satara Pratapsinh bhosale raje who also build Satara- medha- Mahabaleshwar road. While developing the region many Poinsettia and silver oak trees are brought here and planted on very large scale, since then, these trees became the face of panchgani.



The region of panchgani and Mahabaleshwar is very famous for its juicy and red strawberries which only grow in this region. The region provides 85% of total production of strawberries in whole country. Strawberry festivals happens here every year in summer time. Also, many festivals like shivjayanti, Ramnavami and Marathi festivals are celebrated here on large scale. Many film shoots also happen here often.

How to Reach:

The Panchgani Hill station is in between Wai and Mahabaleshwar located in Mahabaleshwar tehsil of Satara District of Maharashtra State. Panchgani is well connected through road and local transport. Panchgani is 45 km away from Satara city, 105 km away from pune city, 170 km away from Kolhapur city and around 250 km away from Mumbai. The panchgani is very near to Wai and can be reached via pasarani ghat road.

From Pune: Pune- Surur- Wai- Panchgani.

From Kolhapur: Kolhapur- Karad- Satara- Pachvad- Wai- Panchgani.

From Mumbai- Mumbai- Pune- Surur- Wai- Panchgani.
